Hey there, Peeps! This post is going up just a bit later than I had hoped due to technical issues. My ISP finally got those issues ironed out, so here we are!

Welcome to my master bedroom refresh and first ever participation in the One Room Challenge.

Today I’m going to share with you the current state of my bedroom, and the plans I have for updating it this fall.

My lovely brick, new-to-me-home is about 50 years old and has all the original everything in it; including the shag and sculptured carpeting from the late 1960’s. The overall look of the home is a mixture of the 70’s and 80’s, so the whole house really needs to be updated, and I’m starting with my bedroom.

The walls, trim, and ceiling are all the same color, a soft beige cream, which gives a weird light to the room. It makes it really difficult to photograph.

I’m going to brighten the room up a bit by painting the walls with Sterling, by Behr (a soft gray) and use Whisper White, also by Behr, on the ceiling and trim.

This window has verticle blinds on it, which I do not like – at all – so those will be coming down. I have some lace in my stash that was supposed to be curtains on the master bedroom windows in my old house, but were never made up. Thankfully, there is just enough to make some short straight panels, and a set of longer curtains for draping that will fit this window.

This cubby thingy, here, is one of the most challenging areas of the room. I haven’t decided, yet, whether to paint the drawers below it white or gray. I think I need to see the paint on the walls of the cubby, and the white on the trim of the closet doors before I can decide which color to use. Either way, I’m going to keep the hardware that is on them, because that is bona fide vintage hardware.

The light fixture in this recessed area has to go, though. I’m searching for something with which to replace it, but so far, I haven’t found the right one.

Last, but not least, is this light fixture in the center of the room. I love it! This style of light fixture is in all three of the main floor bedrooms and I think they are fabulous, so this stays. Yep. Keeping this right where it is.

I’ve created a vision board on Pinterest to guide me through this project and would love for you to check it out and get a feel for the cottage style I want this room to be when I’m done. I know I’m going to be adding lace; lace on the windows, on the bed with shams and throw pillows, and any other way I can tastefully put some in this room.

I’m not quite sure, yet, what I’ll do for the bed coverings. I love the bedspreads with the long drapey sides, but I also love vintage style quilts, so that’s a toss up.

Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my One Room Challenge project. I’m so grateful that you did and would love to read any comments and suggestions you have. Just leave them for me below.

Please come back next week to see the progress I’ve made and make sure to check out all the other fantastic makeover plans shared this week on the ORC blog.
